DARLINGTON AMATEUR SWIMMING CLUB

ELECTION OF COMMITTEE – 2008/2009

Dear Member

Another year has gone by and as required by the club constitution the current committee will soon be standing down to make way for a new committee which will be elected by the members. We are writing to you now to ask you for your support in this process and to ask you to consider standing for election to committee yourself. In addition we currently have a vacancy for a Welfare Officer and we are looking for a suitable volunteer to come forward. Details of the position will appear on the notice board and the web site very soon.

The committee has overall responsibility for the running of the club and consists of three executive officers, namely Chairperson, Secretary and Treasurer plus up to thirteen other committee members. Committee members are involved with the general administration of the club, finance, organisation of club events (e.g. galas, fundraising etc), and most importantly representing the views of club members. Being a committee member allows you to be fully involved in the decision making process, it gives you an understanding of how the club works and why things happen the way they do and allows you to play a significant part in supporting the club for the benefit of the swimmers and divers.

If you have ever sat on poolside and thought things could be done better then now is your chance to stand up and do something about it by joining the committee and making a difference. You do not need to be an expert in swimming or diving (we employ professional coaches for that) or have a swimmer in one of the senior squads. You will be guided and made welcome by the other volunteers and coaching staff who will truly appreciate the effort you are making. Your commitment will be to attend and participate in as many of the monthly meetings as you can and to contribute to the good of the club wherever possible.

Anyone who is a current member of the club and is aged 18 years or over is entitled to stand for election to the committee. The elections will take place at the Annual General Meeting on Wednesday 2nd April 2008 from 7:30 till 9:30pm in the Pease Suite (Dolphin Centre first floor) and all members are invited to attend and vote. In February we will invite nominations for election of members to the committee. Nominees will need to sign the nomination form on the notice board to show their willingness to stand and will need to be supported by a proposer and a seconder (who must both be current adult members of the club). Please keep an eye on the club notice board in the Dolphin Centre main pool area and the club web site at www.dare-asc.co.uk for more details. If you are interested then please talk to any committee member or visit the club desk any Tuesday night from 6:30pm onwards.

DASC Committee (February 2008)

DASC
NOMINATIONS for DASC COMMITTEE

The Annual General Meeting of
Darlington Amateur Swimming Club
will take place on
Wednesday 2nd April 2008 at 7:30pm
in the Dolphin Centre (Pease Suite on the first floor)

If you are a current member of DASC and are at least 18 years old, you may attend, speak and vote at the AGM and stand for election to DASC Committee. If you are not sure whether you are a current adult member, please see the adult membership list on the noticeboard. If you would like to become an adult member of the club so that you can be involved in the AGM, please contact Jane Teague at the club desk on Tuesday evenings by Tuesday 4 March at the latest.

If you would like to stand for election to DASC Committee, please fill in the nomination form on the club noticeboard and sign it indicating your willingness to stand for election. Then find two other adult club members to propose and second you on the nomination form.

Nominations must be made by Wednesday 12 March by 8pm

DASC Committee consists of a Chairperson, Secretary and Treasurer (the Executive officers) and up to 13 other members. In the event of there being more nominees than positions to be filled, a ballot will be held at the AGM. In the event of a ballot being held for any of the Executive Officers, any who are not elected to one of the posts may also then stand for election as a committee member. The AGM may also elect a President.

DASC has several other roles that need to be taken on to help with the running of the club. These include Assistant Secretary, Assistant Treasurer, Competition Secretary, Membership Secretary, ASA Registration Secretary and Welfare Officer. These do not all have to be filled by Committee members but do require volunteers who are willing to be committed to the roles throughout the year. If you would be interested in taking on any of these roles or helping out in these or other ways please indicate on the sheet on the notice board. You can do this in addition to standing for election to the committee.

The AGM also needs to elect up to 4 custodians (to deal with any property of DASC, other than cash in the bank).
