3 experienced divers from Darlington Amateur Swimming Club travelled to Harrogate to take part in the Northumberland and Durham and North East Regional Diving Championships recently and they all came back with Gold medals

Michael Palmer, Luke Moore and Emily Pattinson (pictured left to right with Head Diving Coach Steve Jackson behind) had one of their most successful weekends of competition and really put Darlington on the diving map.

Michael Palmer scored 192.60 points in the Boys 14 - 15 years 3m Springboard, which also earned him 5th place in the North East Region.
Emily Pattinson scored 137.80 in the Women's Open 1 metre, also earning her 13th place in the North East Region.
Luke Moore scored 192.60 points in the Boys 12-13 years novice skills, also which earned him 6th place in the North East Region.

Head coach Steve Jackson said "The Darlington divers are really progressing quickly and they are growing in confidence and self belief. The whole diving squad is working hard and all the hours in the training pool are being rewarded with regular success in competition. I believe this is just the beginning and we will continue to build on these results".

DASC Divers Travel to Shipley

Shipley Novices

Darlington Amateur Swimming Club have had an excellent start to 2008 with Stephen Pattinson diving extremely well in Eindhoven, Michael Palmer winning the Northumberland and Durham platform competition with a PB score and then along with Emily Pattinson diving extremely well in Plymouth against the best divers in the country (apart from the few that were in Beijing qualifying for the Olympics).

At the weekend a group of eight young divers went to the Shipley Novices with 6 of them setting personal best scores (PB’s) and all eight diving very well. Head Diving Coach Steve Jackson said “The club is rebuilding well after the recent setbacks with the pool out of action and some of our top divers leaving to go to college. Seeing our younger divers performing well in open competition shows we have exciting times to look forward to”.

DASC SUCCESS IN EINDHOVEN

Steve Pattinson is coy about his age these days but he recently took part in The Inaugural Dutch Open Masters Championships in Eindhoven competing in the 45 to 49 years age group.
Flying out of Stanstead, our very own jet setting diver travelled with the 32 man Great Britain Diving Federation Masters Team to compete against former Olympic and European Championship Divers.
During a very successful weekend Steve competed in the 1m spring board coming 5th, the 3m spring board coming 5th and the 5 m and the 7.5m platform coming 6th, but more importantly to Steve he achieved his personal target scores in all events despite introducing 2 new dives. Steve said “I had a fantastic time at the Championships (despite an 8:00am start on the Sunday morning) and it was an honour to be competing with some of the best divers in the world from a past era. I have learned a great deal from talking and watching”.
Regarding Steve’s age we have a further clue from the fact that the oldest competitor was 87 years old and in a careless moment Steve said that meant he was looking forward to another 40 years of diving. Evidently the 91 year old competitor had withdrawn from the competition due to a recent diving injury.
