DARLINGTON AMATEUR SWIMMING CLUB GRACE REALLY IS AMAZING

When 10 year old Grace Carlton heard about the recent Swimathon to be held in the Dolphin Centre Darlington, she decided she wanted to make an effort and raise money for the Marie-Curie Cancer Care appeal. As a member of Darlington Amateur Swimming Club’s “A” Squad she thought this was the ideal opportunity to put all her hard training to good use so she entered the 2.5k race for ladies (100 lengths of the pool) and not only that but she persuaded her Uncle Steve to enter the 2.5k race for men as well. Grace, who attends St Augustine’s RC Primary school, amazed herself with her performance when she completed the course in 51minutes 31 seconds making her the fastest woman in Darlington, 15th fastest Nationally in her age group and 57th fastest woman in the country on the day. Not only that, but Grace has managed to raise £75 so far for Marie-Curie appeal. Not a bad day’s work for this young lady. After the event Grace said “That’s the farthest distance I have ever swum without a break. It was really tiring but I feel great now it is over”. Grace has a web site where you can make a donation to this wonderful charity on http://my.artezglobal.com/personalPage.aspx?SID=232662

Darlington welcomes young swimmers from Germany
During a recent schools exchange visit, two young swimmers from Bremmen in Gremany approached Fiona Miller (Head Coach) and asked if the they could train with the club while they were here in Darlington. Fiona was delighted to be able to help and Carina (14) and Alex (15) joined the Top Squad sessions for a few days.
Since their return to Germany Carina has been in touch to say thank you for the opportunity to train and how much they enjoyed their time here, and she he has sent us a link to her club web site.
We are always pleased to help visiting athletes maintain their fitness levels and we are particularly keen to promote cooperation between clubs and in this case between countries. Carina has informed her Head Coach of her relationship with our club and they have visited our web site to see where their young swimmers have been training.
If you would like to visit their web site go to swimming page links.
If you go to the home page then click on Mannshaften in the Navigation pane you will see the teams listed. Click on Team 1 and then click on Carina Sturken and there she is. Alex is proving a bit more difficult to find.
